Synopsis
Stand by Me follows four twelve-year-old boys — Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern — who set out on a two-day journey to find the body of a missing boy named Ray Brower. What begins as an exciting adventure quickly becomes something much more meaningful as the boys confront danger, fear, and the complicated realities of growing up.

- Wil Wheaton plays Gordie Lachance, his breakthrough role at age 13. The following year he was cast as Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and later appeared in Toy Soldiers, Leverage, Eureka, and The Big Bang Theory, where he played a fictionalized version of himself. In 2026 he reunited with Corey Feldman and Jerry O’Connell for the film’s 40th-anniversary events.
- River Phoenix plays Chris Chambers, a role he took on at age 15. He went on to films including The Mosquito Coast, Running on Empty (earning an Academy Award nomination), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and My Own Private Idaho. Phoenix died on October 31, 1993, at age 23, ruled an accidental death from acute drug intoxication; he is remembered as one of the most significant young actors of his generation.
- Corey Feldman plays Teddy Duchamp. One of the most prominent child actors of the 1980s, his early credits included Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Gremlins, and The Goonies. - Jerry O’Connell plays Vern Tessio, his feature-film debut at age 11. He married actress Rebecca Romijn in 2007.
- Kiefer Sutherland plays Ace Merrill, one of his early major roles. The son of actor Donald Sutherland, he went on to The Lost Boys, Young Guns, A Few Good Men, and his most widely recognized role as counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer on 24, for which he won an Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Award. He has also pursued a career as a musician, releasing several country-rock albums.
- Richard Dreyfuss portrays the adult Gordie Lachance and serves as the film’s narrator. An Academy Award winner for The Goodbye Girl (1977), he is also known for Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Mr. Holland’s Opus, for which he received another Oscar nomination.
